Championship Sunday!!!
On Sunday afternoon the South Oxford U16 BrokerLink Storm had a chance at redemption when they faced the Mt. Brydges Cougars in the championship of the South Oxford Storm Classic tournament.

Mt Brydges caught the boys flat footed in the opening frame when they carried the play and scored twice making the score 2-0 after the first period.

After a pep talk by the coaches and some penalty trouble by Mt. Brydges, the boys finally woke in the middle of the period when Eli North cut the deficit in half with Noa Black getting the assist.  With Mt. Brydges playing undisciplined hockey, the boys went to the power play.  Urijah Jewkes did some hard work behind the net and made a sweet feed to Ryan Gregg who then buried his shot, evening the score.  Ethan Kish had the other assist.  With the boys still on the power play Jewkes was at it again when he fed Kolten Winkworth, who then made a smooth pass to Jeremy Stiles.  Stiles made no mistake as the boys took the lead going into the third period.

In the third, Mt. Brydges scored right off the bat, evening the score setting the stage for an epic finish.  With both teams getting their chances, the boys went back to the power play.  Ryan Gregg popped his second of the game taking the lead with Ethan Kish getting the helper.  Never one to quit, Mt. Brydges answered right back once again evening the score at four a piece.  With neither team able to score for the rest of the third we were heading off to OT.

In OT, both teams had glorious chances but Riley Vyse and the netminder for Mt. Brydges stole the show and closed the door.  With under ten seconds remaining in OT there was a mad scramble in front of the Storm net and a player from the Cougars found the loose puck and slid it under the pad of Vyse much to the disappointment of the team and their fans.

Make the final 5-4

It was a hard fought game by both teams and there is no reason for the South Oxford U16 BrokerLink Storm to hang their heads.  They should be very proud of themselves.  The South Oxford U16 BrokerLink Storm will start preparing for the regional Silver Stick tournament in two weeks in Woodstock.  The boys next game is this Saturday at 6pm at the barn in Ingersoll against the St. Thomas Stars.
