Silver Stick Woodstock Game 1
On Friday night the South Oxford U16 BrokerLink Storm opened their run to the silver stick championship with their opening game against the Western Mustangs white team.
In the first period, it was a defensive struggle for both teams and nobody was able to break the scoreless draw. Bodies were flying everywhere and the goalies stood tall.
In the second, the boys picked the pace up and Ethan Kish opened the scoring with the assists going to Eli North and Liam Nunn. A few minutes later with the boys continuing to put the pressure on, Liam Nunn made it a two goal lead with Adam Cvitkovic getting the helper. Unfortunately the boys ran into some penalty trouble and Western cut the lead to one before the period ended.
With Western gaining some momentum, they were able to tie the game midway through the third period. Less then a minute later the boys answered when Ethan Kish deflected Brock McDowell's shot from the point making it 3-2. Shortly after the Kish goal Jeremy Stiles found a loose puck and scored a short handed beauty on the breakaway making it 4-2. With Western cutting the lead to one, the defense stepped up and helped the boys to a 4-3 victory. Riley Vyse was outstanding between the pipes for the boys.
The South Oxford U16 BrokerLink Storm play two on Saturday vs Welland and the host Woodstock.
