Important game vs St. Mary's
Last Saturday night the South Oxford U16 BrokerLink Storm the St. Mary's Rock at the barn in Ingersoll.
The boys were hoping to get back on track from their mini winless streak. This game was an old fashion shootout at the barn. It was a very fast paced game from the opening face off with both teams getting plenty of scoring opportunities.
In the first, the Rock opened the scoring but Liam Nunn scored a beauty near the end of the period to even the score. Nunn had a heck of game for the Storm. The Rock took the lead early in the second and then extended the lead shortly after. The boys, never one to roll over cut the lead to one when Nunn scored his second of the game with Brock McDowell and Kolten Winkworth getting the helpers on the goal. 12 seconds later Noa Black would tie the game with a beauty shot low to the blocker side to tie the game again. The Rock would once again take the lead with less then a minute remaining in the period, but again the Storm would tie the game when the captain Cole Shoup would go bar down with Liam Nunn getting the helper.
With the score tied in the third, the Rock controlled the majority of the play in the third and it cost the boys. The Rock would score twice taking a 6-4 lead. With the game seemingly out of reach, the boys would try hard to claw back into the game. With only 17 seconds left Liam Nunn would get his third of the game cutting the lead to one. With the boys putting the pressure on Cole Shoup would find a loose puck and make no mistake evening the score with only two seconds remaining in the game. Nunn would get his fifth point of the game with the assist on the goal.
Make the final 6-6. Although not a win, it was a gritty performance from the South Oxford U16 BrokerLink Storm. The boys would take on Norfolk on Sunday afternoon in Tillsonburg.
